The Colorado Chamber Players kicks off their 30th season with three concerts in September 2023.
September 8-9-10, Spheres of Influence: Sextets of Ching-Chu Hu and Johannes Brahms, features a world premiere Cello Duo Of Cliffs and Sacred Spaces by Gwyneth Walker. We are delighted to welcome back to Denver Amy Frost Baumgarten, Cello (Principal Cello of the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra) and Mary Cowell, Viola (3rd Chair Viola with the Colorado Symphony).
Gwyneth Walker’s Of Cliffs and Sacred Spaces was composed especially for these concerts, and provides a wonderful sonic landscape of the American West, inspired by the Vedauwoo rock formations in Eastern Wyoming.
Ching-Chu Hu writes about his 2013 string sextet: “The inspiration for Spheres of Influence comes from the idea that our identity is in part formed by those around us. As individuals, our actions and decisions are often determined by how we were raised, the culture we grew up in, and the influence of our friends….As an Asian-American composer, music of both my cultures are present as well.” Hu’s inventive work is sure to intrigue and entertain audiences!
The CCP is thrilled to perform one of our favorite pieces of chamber music, the great G major op. 36 String Sextet no. 2 of Johannes Brahms. Brahms’ animated and rich score is incredibly beautiful, a true masterpiece.
After the Bethany Lutheran concert on September 8, please join us for a reception to greet the artists.
There will be a livestream of the September 10 concert from the University of Wyoming.
We can’t wait to see you in September!
