Amy Frost Baumgarten has been principal cellist of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and  the Washington National Opera Orchestra since 2000.  She has performed chamber recitals at venues including the Phillips Collection, the Kennedy Center,  the Yale Center for British Art, San Francisco Symphony’s Chamber Music Sundaes, and the University of California at Berkeley Faculty Series. A frequent guest artist with Colorado Chamber Players, she has also performed with the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra and toured with the New Century Chamber Orchestra. She has been a featured soloist at the Kennedy Center in works for ballet by Villa Rojo, Dvorak, and Schubert, and performed concertos with the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra and the Vallejo Symphony, and recitals of solo Bach at the Los Angeles and San Francisco Public Libraries.

Amy Baumgarten earned a Master of Music at the Yale School of Music, where she studied with Aldo Parisot, and performed on the Grammy nominated “Yale Cellos” recordings for Delos. She also attended the University of Pennsylvania.  As a student of Orlando Cole at the New School of Music in Philadelphia, she won the Montgomery Memorial Prize and studied chamber music with the members of the Curtis String Quartet. She is currently on the faculty at Catholic University of America. Previously Ms. Baumgarten was a teaching assistant for Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music, and also taught at the Hartt School of Music, Choate Rosemary Hall, and  Wesleyan University. A faculty member at Eastern Music Festival since 1992, she performed in numerous highly acclaimed chamber recitals broadcast by National Public Radio.
