Hiding in Plain Sight: Mystery Composers of the Baroque

Music of Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Lucrezia Vizzana, Arcangelo Corelli, Francesca Caccini, Isabella Leonarda and Barbara Strozzi

Many composers in the Baroque era were forced to navigate a deeply religious and socially rigid world by concealing their personal lives behind the safety of powerful benefactors, royal patrons, or coded musical language. While they composed and performed masterpieces, their true identities and private relationships were often confined to tight-knit, underground circles or private salons. The CCP explores the hidden lives and brilliant music of women and gay composers of the Baroque, featuring works by Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Isabella Leonarda, Arcangelo Corelli, Barbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini and Lucrezia Vizzano.
